Science Advocacy and Communication

I am actively involved in science advocacy, mentorship, and public engagement. I have mentored students from underrepresented backgrounds applying to PhD programs through Project SHORT, and participated in the Letters to a Pre-Scientist pen-pal program.

I also completed the Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering Workshop through the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

From 2024–2026, I served as an executive board member of the Penn Science Policy and Diplomacy Group, where I organized events and led initiatives focused on science policy and public engagement. These included organizing Environmental Justice and Policy panels, leading a Science Diplomacy initiative focused on Latin America and the Caribbean, and coordinating local advocacy efforts related to public transportation in Philadelphia.

In addition, I have led journal clubs on topics including genomic sovereignty and the colonial legacies of race in genomics.

These experiences reflect my broader interest in the ethical, societal, and policy implications of genetics research.
